While Computer Science Education week has finished, we are going to spend one more day on coding to help the students understand the versatility of programming/coding.
This week is Computer Science Education week. In celebration of it, all of Grymes will be participating in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. By nurturing computer science, we are encouraging students to think logically, solve problems, and demonstrate creativity. Below are some of the coding activities that we will be doing in computer lab this week in fourth grade:
The fourth graders have had a great time learning how to add, edit, and layer images within a PowerPoint presentation. They have also been working on animating the images, adding audio, and creating a video using the program. Below are some student examples:
This is a fun little project to teach kids about how to work with objects at different layers in Microsoft PowerPoint. They learned about the terms objects and layers. They learned how to bring an object forward and to the front, as well as move an object backwards or to the back. Students were asked to recreate the image in the upper left hand corner on the first two activities and create a face for the third. Then they were asked to save it in their personal folders under the name "layers" and their name.
